"Torre" in Italian means "tower". The Campanile acoustics series has received this name on purpose. Italian bell towers are separate architectural constructions which served in days of old as both watchtowers and bell towers. During the Middle Ages and Renaissance in Italy campaniles were built not only at churches and cathedrals. Each local lord erected his own tower, which was used for surveillance as well as bells. The medieval city of San Giminiano in Tuscany, "city of fine towers", is well-known for the architecture of its bell towers. 13 majestic towers have been preserved, they reach for the sky, surrounding the main city square. The Signoria Tower in Verona and the beautiful bell tower of the Vecchio Palace in Florence are other remarkable examples. The Torre acoustic system resembles Italian bell towers not only in design, but also in the power and efficiency of its sound reproduction. |
